Drift ease Line is a French electro-pop band which was born in 1999, in the parisian suburb near Versailles.
Raphaël Sergeant, the singer, also plays keyboards and François Devinant, the guitarist, also programs rythmtracks and computers. They have always recorded their songs in their own home studio.
They have always loved english and american music and have been influenced by english pop bands from the Beatles to New Order, from Joy division and The Smith to Radiohead, but also by american classics from Creedence Clearwater Revival to REM, The Smashing Pumpkins or Beck, they are also influenced by some electro stuff as The Notwist or Air.
Their first demo was the EP Oscar Wilde is dead EP (October 2001 – 4 songs) ; it was clearly Trip-Hop and influenced by Radiohead.
After this first shot, they started rehearsing with Hadrien Grange (drums), today the frontman of the parisian band Foxglove (www.myspace.com/foxgloveparis) and better known as Horse Mac Topper (www.myspace.com/horsemactopper) and Jean-Christophe Rabet (bass guitar).
Soon afterwards, they decided to record a second EP : Street Regency EP (March 2003 – 3 songs), which was more pop’ n’ roll. The public liked it all right, but Hadrien soon decided to leave the band, so François and Raphaël had to work things differently. They decided to be more electro and they put more rythmtracks and computers on their songs. Their third EP : F.U.R.T.H.E.R (June 2003 – 8 songs), which is longer than the others and more sophisticated, was released in june 2003.
This time, the public clearly enjoyed it. In January 2004, the French Jazz band Les clochards célestes (www.myspace.com/clochardscelestes) asked Drift ease Line to play with them. In March, the french manager of the american band Nada Surf asked Raphaël to think about a solo project, but he finally turned this offer down. The same year, a track of the EP was preselected to be on the french compilation CQFD 2005 edited by the French magazine Les inrockuptibles.
A long period of doubt followed this effervescence. The band did nothing between 2005 and 2006, in part because they moved to Paris, but they decided in summer 2006 to record a new EP.
Their last EP, Back to the Fiction (July 2006 – 10 songs), might be their best one. It is pop and electro at the same time. Many reviews of this EP are available on the Internet (they are written in French) and one of its songs is downloadable on the french compilation French Zone Vol.1 ( http://www.01audio-video.com/compilation.htm).
Right now, Drift ease Line has contacts with the label Blue Note France.
