Born in Poland, Sylvia Filus starts hermusic education by piano lessons at the age of 6, after one year of taking ballet classes. Creative from a very young age, she begins to paint at the ageof 4, writes prize-winning poems at 8 (some of them published), novels and song lyrics at 10, and to compose music at 14. Between 1992 and 1999 she participates in several international jazz workshops in herhome country in piano, voice, and especially composition with very well renowned artist Gerard Trottman.
At theage of 16, Sylvia leaves Poland to continue her musical education in Paris. After one year of studies at the “Voice School of Alice Donna”, she decides to focus on composition. She participates in the Audiovisual Workshop at the Centre d’Animation du Marais with Emmanuel Perrier and, in 1993 begins to study Film Music Composition with Patrice Mestral at Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. In addition to that, she is enrolled in other programs: musical analysis, music history, ear training, and harmony. In 1998, after presenting several themes composed and orchestrated for images, Sylvia obtains the Advanced Level Diploma of Film Music Composition. Between 1999 and 2003 Sylvia Filus continues her musical education at Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris where she studies orchestration under the mentorship of Alain Louvier. In 2003 she obtains the “First Prize of Orchestration”. To complete her music education, she follows the two years program of conducting in Adrian McDonnell classes at Conservatoire Frédérique Chopin in Paris.
Sylvia Filus has composed music for several short fiction, experimental or animation movies, (Personal Best of V.Marinov, Undo of J.G. Périot, Onchocercose of Ch. Gautry, Accord parfait of I. Bartosik, Saisons du souvenir of N. Rogez…) songs, piano pieces (edition: Armiane), small ensembles, chamber orchestra, symphonic orchestra, and big band. Actually she is working on different projects, also in film scoring.
